First Visit

When you come in for your first visit as a new patient at Dunwoody Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we want to make it as simple and convenient as possible. We start by offering online new patient forms for you to fill out when it is convenient for you. This can save you time during your appointment and give us the information we need before you arrive. Expect to be greeted by one of our friendly team members to check you in and get you ready for your first checkup with us.

During Your Appointment

Once we get you checked in, we will let our dental team know you are ready to begin your appointment. Since it is your first time with us, we want to cover all your dental needs and ensure we have a complete picture of your current oral health. We start by getting digital x-rays of your teeth and mouth to help our dentist perform his evaluation and exam. This is usually followed by a periodontal exam with our hygienist.

Gum health and professional cleanings are an important component of your oral health. Our hygienist will examine your gums and determine your level of periodontal health. In most cases, you will receive a dental cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, along with a proposed periodontal treatment plan to maintain your gum health.

After your cleaning, you will meet with the dentist for your exam. Using the x-rays and a physical examination of your teeth, gums and mouth, the dentist will determine a plan for your oral care. If any treatments are needed, they will be explained to you. Feel free to ask questions or address any concerns you have with the dentist. This is a great time to ask about our elective services, like cosmetic or restorative dentistry.
